The University fields 26 teams in varsity competition: women's basketball, cross country, fencing, golf, lacrosse, rowing, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, indoor track and field, outdoor track and field, and volleyball; men's baseball, basketball, cross country, fencing, football, golf, ice hockey, lacrosse, soccer, swimming and diving, tennis, indoor track and field, and outdoor track and field.

Students compete in 33 club sports and 48 intramural sports through Recreational Sports. Students, faculty, and staff have access to more than 300 aquatic, instructional and special programs, as well as more than 40 family programs.

The women's la cross team

Fighting Irish athletics programs have produced the second most Academic All-Americans among division 1-A colleges and universities.

Notre Dame band

The Notre Dame Marching Band was founded in 1843 and is the oldest college marking band still in existence.
