Our Purpose

The purpose of the First Class Steppers is to educate the University of Notre Dame and greater South Bend community of the African-American tradition and culture of stepping, a modern form of traditional African dance. This is accomplished by performing at numerous events throughout the academic year at Notre Dame and Saint Mary's College.

We serve the South Bend community through performing and providing South Bend's youth with mentors and role models to encourage them to strive for higher education in their futures. We are also advocates of the cultural aspects of step's roots, teaching the student body of Notre Dame to step via workshops and events sponsored by the First Class Steppers of Notre Dame and other organizations.
