This site contains information about the various astronomy software applications installed on the Notre Dame campus network. The user should be able to find version numbers, installation instructions, and solutions to common issues very quickly.
If you have any requests for additional software to be installed network-wide, get in touch with Jason Quinn. Please give ample time for completion of your request.
To use the astronomy software on the network, you must put the appropriate lines in the start-up files of the shells that you use. Consult the following table.
|If you use...||...put this line...||... in this file.|
At the moment, only csh, tcsh, and bash are directly supported. That's pretty much it if you're a first time IRAF user and the machine you're on has had the IRAF install script ran on it. Now follow the instructions on the IRAF page to make a login directory. If you were using the old version of IRAF, you'll have to make a new iraf login directory. All other lines relating to IRAF, Super Mongo, Karma, Tiny Tim, and APT should be removed from your .cshrc (but make a backup copy first). There are a few caveats. See the IRAF and SM subpages for details.
