....Doing exciting research & getting to know your
fellow fellows :)
The
Notre Dame Biology REU program is an AWESOME experience for anyone who is
interested in not only learning about research in general but also to attain
numerous techniques as well as a different way of thinking. You work closely
with an immediate mentor who is normally either a post doctoral student or a
graduate student as well as being advised by the principal investigator. The
fellows often become good friends with each other and even plan weekend trips
together (i.e. Cedar point, Great America, Chicago, Canada, etc.). Some people have previously mentioned that
they were a little apprehensive about what the program would be like before it
started but afterwards they wished the summer would not end. Dr. Whaley, the
program director, is one of the kindest women in the world who would do
anything to help out the students if she can and she is definitely an added bonus
to the program. I would recommend for anyone and everyone interested in
research to APPLY!!!!

Students
from all over the country coming together to have
scientific adventures at Notre Dame/South Bend Indiana.
- Malaria: pupae
picking is always fun; developmental studies; genomics is a very HOT topic
right now; gene mapping, etc.
- Overall the ultimate goal of every student is
to find a way to eradicate the transmission of the malarial parasite to
human hosts :)
- Cancer:
- Retinal Degeneration:
- Evolution: Looking at some strange Drosophila
ssp; characterizing pigmentation; cloning, bioinformatics, and
of course PCR.
- The ultimate goal is to
determine how and why natural selection occurs and to determine
simple genotype to phenotype relationships.
- Mycobacteria:
- Cell development & its mechanisms:
