Welcome to the DIAL (Data, Inference Analytics, and Learning) Lab, Professor Nitesh Chawla's research group. The DIAL Lab is closely affiliated with the Interdisciplinary Center for Network Science and Applications (iCeNSA), which is directed by Prof. Chawla. The iCeNSA is an interdisciplinary
University research center organized around network science problems in social, biological, biochemical, physical, environmental, financial, organizational, technical and defense
systems.
Our research addresses a diverse set of problems in Big Data and Analytics. Our fundamental work in data mining includes -- class imbalance (rare and extreme
events), cost-sensitive learning, evaluation issues,
streaming data, graph mining, network science, and parallel and distributed data mining. We work on a broad range of applications including social networks, healthcare analytics and
informatics, systems biology, and climate and environmental science.
The research is/has been supported with grants and awards from National Science
Foundation (NSF), Army Research Labs (ARL), Department of Energy (DOE), Department of Defense (DOD), National Institute of Justice (NIJ), DARPA, Battelle, NET Institute, Northwest
Indiana Computational Grid, and a number of Industry sponsors.
