CSE 60771/40771, Distributed Systems
TeamTrak Experiment 2

Objective:  The purpose of this exercise is to use the routing and mapping features of TeamTrak to locate a device positioned somewhere on campus.

Task:  This exercise is very simple. Form one or more ad-hoc networks and search the campus for a TeamTrak device named RABBIT. Once somebody has determined the location of RABBIT, use the routing protocol to inform other searchers of its whereabouts. As other devices enter the range of each other's wireless radios and connect, routing information is broadcast to other searchers, who both discover RABBIT's location and collectively share it over a wider area. The goal of this exercise is for all participants to discover RABBIT's location in this manner.

Part I. Setup

1. Depending on your location, the tablets may automatically connect to nomad while walking around campus, making connectivity with other TeamTrak devices unpredictable at best. To make sure devices connect only to TEAMTRAK, complete the following:

  1. From Control Panel, click on Network Connections
  2. Right click on Wireless Network Connection and select Properties
  3. Click on the Wireless Networks tab
  4. Select Advanced
  5. Select Computer-to-computer (ad-hoc) networks only

  6. Click Close
  7. Click OK

2. From within TeamTrak, select File | Clear History. Only logs from this experiment are of interest.
3. Connect to the internet and download the updated campus map.

Important Note: As in the last exercise, you may give your tablet any descriptive TeamTrak name you like, but PLEASE DO NOT NAME YOUR MACHINE RABBIT!
