Truman Scholarship

Scholarship Summary: $30,000 for graduate or professional school for juniors who are committed to making a difference through public service. Selection based on academic promise, service potential, and leadership.

What is the Truman Scholarship?

Provides college juniors who are committed to careers in government, the non-profit or advocacy sectors, education or elsewhere in public service with the financial support for graduate study, leadership training and fellowship with other students who are committed to making a difference through public service. The scholarship is a $26,000 merit-based federal grant for graduate or professional school. Requires university endorsement.

Who can apply for the Truman Scholarship?

The primary eligibility abnd selection criteria are as follows:

1. Full-time student pursuing a bachelor's degree with junior-level academic standing; or senior-level standing in the third year of college enrollment
2. U.S. citizen (or a U.S. national from a Pacific Island) by the date the Scholarship will be awarded
3. Extensive record of campus and community service
4. Commitment to a career in government or the nonprofit and advocacy sectors
5. Communication skills and a high probability of becoming a "change agent"
6. Strong academic record with likely acceptance to the graduate school of the candidate's choice
