What students are asking about Student Financial Services:
When will I receive my Financial Aid Notification?
Admitted Freshmen
The Office of Financial Aid began mailing Financial Aid Notifications to admitted freshmen in late March. Financial Aid Notifications will continue to be mailed on a daily basis based upon file completion date. As a reminder, please complete your IDOC packet if you have not done so already. If the review of your financial aid record suggests a need for additional information, a “Request for Information” email will be sent to the student’s home email address.
Admitted Grad/Professional Students
The Office of Financial Aid began mailing Financial Aid Notifications to admitted Grad/Professional students in March. Financial Aid Notifications will continue to be mailed on a daily basis based upon file completion date. If the review of your financial aid record suggests a need for additional information (ex. 2012 federal tax return), a "Request for Information" email will be sent to the student's home email address.
Continuing Undergraduate Students
Continuing students may expect to receive their Financial Aid Notifications during the months of May, June, or July. Financial Aid Notifications will also be available at this time through insideND. If the review of your financial aid record suggests a need for additional information, a "Request for Information" email will be sent to your ND email address.
Continuing Grad/Professional Students
Continuing Law/Grad/Business students may expect to receive their Financial Aid Notifications during the months of May, June, and July. Financial Aid Notifications will also be available at this time through insideND. If the review of your financial aid record suggests a need for additional information (ex. 2012 federal tax return), a "Request for Information" email will be sent to your ND email address.
How do I make corrections to my CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE?
You do not need to make corrections to the income information on your PROFILE. Our office will use the documentation you provide via IDOC to verify and update income information submitted on the PROFILE. If you need to correct non-income information (assets, household size, etc.), print a copy of the PROFILE application results, cross off the incorrect information, and write in the correct information. Send a copy of the specific page(s) to our office. Please note that, per federal regulation, assets may only be updated if the original information was incorrect at the time of application (but may not be changed due to a change in the value). If you need to submit PROFILE corrections to our office you may do so via mail, email, or fax. See our contact information below.
How do I make corrections to my Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)?
If eligible, parents and students are strongly encouraged to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool option when completing the FAFSA. Choosing to use this tool will streamline completion of federal verification requirements and expedite the review of your financial aid applications. Note: Tax data will typically be available from the IRS Data Retrieval Tool 1-2 weeks after filing your federal tax return electronically or 6-8 weeks after filing your paper federal tax return by U.S. Postal Service.
If you did not use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool at the time the FAFSA was submitted you may submit a corrected FAFSA using the tool through FAFSA on the Web at http://www.fafsa.gov. If dependent students need to change parental data, a parent must either sign electronically with his/her own PIN or print and sign a signature page. You may also correct non-income information (assets, household size, etc.) corrections may be made using FAFSA on the Web at http://www.fafsa.gov. Please note that, per federal regulation, assets may only be updated if the original information was incorrect at the time of application (but may not be changed due to a change in the value).
Where can I find information about IDOC?
Notre Dame uses the College Board IDOC service for all undergraduate financial aid applicants. Applicants who complete the CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE will receive an email in early February from the College Board providing instructions on how to submit the required documents to the College Board. For answers to many questions about IDOC please click here.
Will living off campus affect my financial aid eligibility?
No. A standard room and board allowance is used to determine undergraduate students' cost of attendance whether they live on or off-campus. The allowance for the 2013/2014 school year is $12,512. Click here to learn more.
Can my academic performance affect my financial aid eligibility?
Students are required to maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average, be on pace to graduate, and complete their degree within a maximum time frame in order to remain eligible for financial aid. Click here to find out more about University policy on Satisfactory Academic Progress.
