Description of Position

Spend the spring semester developing a portfolio of published clips and working with an experienced editor to polish your writing and improve your interviewing and reporting skills. This student employment opportunity includes eight to 10 hours per week writing news and feature profiles for the College of Arts and Letters. Duties also include proofreading, fact checking, and other editorial and administrative tasks.

The student writer will meet regularly with the senior writer/editor in the College s Office of Communications to discuss story ideas, review progress on writing assignments, and go over editing suggestions. Students must be comfortable working independently and juggling multiple deadlines.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should understand editorial and visual communications in an online environment and have a commitment to accuracy and excellence. We are looking for outstanding interpersonal skills, compelling writing, and familiarity with AP style. Previous experience writing for publication is preferred.
