1“Fuchs” refers here to the occasional addition of a foxtail to the escutcheon of Neidhart, alluding to the cunning of its principal character, the peasant-hating Neidhart.  Also cf. ll. 217f. in Helmbrecht where Neidhart is mentioned as an authority in poetic matters.
