Parietals at Notre Dame
Parietals, or visitation hours as any other campus calls them, are one of the most whined about issues on campus. As long as women have been at Notre Dame (since 1972), there has been the "institution" of parietals. Women must leave the guys dorms (and vice versa) by midnight on weekdays (Sunday through Thursday) and by 2 a.m. on the weekends (Friday and Saturday).
The university offers inadequate 24-hour space as a concession to not being able to see one's sweetheart. Without co-ed dorms the "security, privacy and safety" exacts a cost of inconvenience, forced maturity and strained relations between the sexes.
