Course Objectives
The main goals of this course are outlined broadly below:
- Appreciate limits of lumped-element circuit designs and analysis
- Demonstrate proficiency in distributed circuit design by analytical, graphical, and computer-aided methods
- Impedance matching concepts, design of matching networks
- Single-stub tuner, quarter-wave transformer, double-stub tuner
- Demonstrate proficiency in analyzing non-linear properties of microwave circuits
- Gain compression
- Intermodulation effects
- Demonstrate proficiency in analyzing noise in electrical systems
- Effective noise temperature
- Noise factor, noise figure
- Successfully design, analyze, fabricate, and test working microstrip-based circuit
- Properties to be measured and/or analyzed
- Frequency response
- Input and output return loss/match
- Stability (for amplifiers)
- Gain compression, intermodulation
- Noise figure
- System analysis using measured circuit performance data
