Faculty Directory--Ruan O'Donnell

Ruan O'Donnell is this year's Patrick B. O'Donnell Visiting Chair. There was no nepotism involved in his appointment. Professor O'Donnell is a Senior Lecturer in the History Department at the University of Limerick. A graduate of University College Dublin and the Australian National University, he has published and commented extensively on the history of Irish republicanism worldwide. Recent titles include 'The impact of 1916' and 'The Wexford IRA and the Border Campaign'. He is working on a major history of Irish political prisoners in English jails during the 'Long War' of 1969-98 due for publication in 2011. O'Donnell is a member of the Irish Manuscripts Commission and the National Union of Journalists.
