Shan-Yun Huang
(a.k.a. Bruce) is a PhD Candidate in English in his fourth year at Notre Dame. He has a M.A. from National Taiwan University and received Fulbright Scholarship and Taiwan Merit Scholarship for studying abroad. His research interests include James Joyce, Irish/British Modernism, Irish novels, and postcolonial theory. He is currently working on his dissertation project about the Bildungsroman, state formation, and decolonization in 20th century Irish literature. Shan-Yun has published an article, “Staging the Poor Old Woman: Yeats’s Cathleen Ni Houlihan and Synge’s Riders to the Sea,” in 2009, and another article (in Chinese) on Ulysses and national liberation in a collection titled Joyce in Taiwan. He has also presented in the North American Joyce Conference in 2009, the 2010 ACIS National Conference, and “Ireland and Modernity: an Interdisciplinary Conference” at Queen’s University Belfast in 2010.
