Sean O'Brien is the Assistant Director of the Keough-Naughton Institute. Educated at Xavier University and the University of Notre Dame under the direction of Chris R. Vanden Bossche and Seamus Deane, his scholarly work deals with Irish prison writing. Sean's present project examines nineteenth-century critiques of the Victorian penitentiary by Irish writer-inmates. He is also currently editing a collection of essays on Race & Immigration in the New Ireland (with Heather Edwards and Julieann Ulin). Sean has taught many courses dealing with Victorian British & Irish Literature, and has also taught the classes Twentieth-Century Irish Literature, Culture and Politics in Northern Ireland, Race & Migration in The New Ireland and Irish Prison Literature.
