TG4, the Irish language national television channel, commenced broadcasting in 1996. The most high-profile public Irish language initiative in the past fifty years, attracting over 800,000 viewers a day, TG4’s programs have earned numerous prestigious international awards. Cathal Goan, TG4’s first CEO, will reflect on founding a minority language television station and the future of state broadcasting in Europe.
