IUPLR - SEPTEMBER Faculty E-mail Update
Dear Colleagues:
On September 27, 2000, The Inter-University Program for Latino Research was
officially named a "Census Information Center." Our current Memorandum of
Understanding with the Census Bureau is valid until December 31, 2002. IUPLR's
role will be to support outreach and promotion efforts by the Census Bureau
to underserved communities. Our main task will be to make Census data more
widely accessible to data users through the use of the Internet and other
dissemination media. Data include observations and tabulations from the decennial
Census, American Community Survey, and other Census Bureau research programs.
For our participation we will receive free products and services from the
Census Bureau. The products include printed reports, CD-ROMs, electronic files,
documentation, mapping databases, and other reference materials. Services
include training and technical support sponsored by the Census Bureau headquarters
and regional offices. Training and technical support also will be provided
by use of teleconferencing and video presentation.
IUPLR headquarters staff is now working on a plan to acquire Census Bureau
products and obtain basic training. You should be hearing more soon on how
you can take advantage of our Census Information Center designation.
Sincerely,
Gilberto C·rdenas
Assistant Provost & Director
