December 5, 2013

Faculty Fellow Jeffrey H. Bergstrand has been selected the University of Notre Dame’s 2013 “Media Legend.” The award was announced at a reception in the press box overlooking Notre Dame stadium on December 3.

Presented annually since 2004, the Media Legend award recognizes a faculty member who consistently brings attention to the University’s academic excellence through media relations, the Web, and other communications channels. The long list of appearances “in the news” on Bergstrand’s Notre Dame news office profile is a testimony to his generosity in sharing his considerable expertise with the media.

In his media work, Bergstrand is “is nimble, responsive, brilliant, and highly quotable,” said University Director of Public Relations Julie Hail Flory. “He consistently reaches hundreds of millions of potential readers each year in top publications, including Bloomberg Businessweek, CNN Money, Fox Business, Reuters and the Associated Press.”

One of the world’s foremost experts on international trade, Bergstrand has been a finance professor for more than 25 years at the Mendoza College of Business, where he now serves as associate dean for graduate programs. His research on international trade flows, free trade agreements, foreign direct investment, multinational firms, and exchange rates is widely cited. He is also a research associate of CESifo, an international network of researchers based in Europe.

Previous Kellogg recipients of the Media Legend award include Faculty Fellows Mary Ellen O’Connell (2012), Scott Appleby (2009), and George Lopez (2006).
