Professional Codes as a Tool in Decision Making
Worksheet - Thursday

Feed back from previous class.  Review of Code of Student Conduct as prepared by the class on Tuesday. (5 - 15 minutes)

Activity:
  • Divide the class into teams of two, probably, but not necessarily the same pairings as Tuesday. Each team is to create a scenario which illustrates an activity which is within the bounds of Tuesday's ethics statement but which they feel might be unethical.  Describe the activity by using a worksheet. (20 minutes)
  • Present the scenarios to the class. (4 minutes each)
  • Discuss the scenarios. (4 minutes each)
  • General discussion:  Is there a way to change the guidelines to cover this situation?  Should the guidelines be changed?  In general, should statements concerning ethical policy be changed in order to reflect current situations? (remainder of class period)

Additional remarks:   This activity may not come to a logical conclusion.  It is important to be flexible in this regard.  It would also be a good idea to have some backup case files in case the scenarios are not created in a useful way.
