Courseware (course file space)

This is a Notre Dame-specific service where professors can request a 1GB chunk of file storage space for use in a course during a particular semester. It will only be accessible to students enrolled in that specific course. Inside this space one can place files for students to download, and a private "dropbox" folder is created for each student, in which he or she can submit assignments. One can also create folders for project groups or make a restricted folder with instructor-only access.

Use in teaching & learning

The most common use is to distribute files, but some more advanced strategies include:

  • Arrange files in folders by chapter, topic, or format
  • Collect assignments in multiple dropboxes and hand back commented files
  • Create a limited-access web site

NotreDame info

The courseware service is managed by the OIT. In order to use it, the professor must first request activation. Access the courseware space via WebFile (http://webfile.nd.edu/), mounting a network drive, or using an FTP program. Folders remain active for two years.
