Professor John Gaski Recognized by Notre Dame Army ROTC
As part of their undergraduate curriculum, all marketing majors take a semester-long course entitled Marketing Research in which student teams partner with small businesses and organizations both at Notre Dame and in the local community. The course was led by Professor John Gaski in the fall 2013 semester, and over 65 students used their marketing expertise to provide strategic recommendations for improving the marketing efforts of on-campus organizations such as the Center for History, the Observer, the Leprechaun Legion, the Center for Arts & Culture, and the Notre Dame Army ROTC program. Students found the project to be a very rewarding, and the high quality of each team’s final deliverables reflected the effort they had put into understanding their partner organization, conducting research, and developing solutions throughout the semester.
The Marketing Research course is an excellent learning opportunity not only for students but also for the partner organizations, many of which benefit greatly from the students’ recommendations and fresh perspective. After working with a student team in the fall semester, the Notre Dame Army ROTC program expressed their gratitude by inviting Professor John Gaski to a recent banquet where he was awarded with the God, Country, Notre Dame Medal as a token of appreciation for the opportunity to be involved with the Marketing Research class in the fall. The ND Army ROTC was impressed by the marketing students’ hard work and creativity, but Professor Gaski was equally impressed by the individuals from their program whom he interacted with throughout the semester. “If you ever want to be overwhelmed by as high a concentration as you’ll ever find of young people who just radiate high quality,” he said, “find yourself in a room full of ND Army ROTC students.”
Congratulations, Professor Gaski!
