A Note to Prospective Graduate Students
Please read this before contacting me about graduate school.
- All applications for graduate admission are evaluated by the admissions
committee, so do not contact me directly with a general e-mail saying that
you would like to join my research group. You may (and are encouraged to),
however, state in your application that you are interested in working with
me.
- If you have specific questions, or particular strengths or abilities,
you may send me an e-mail if you can demonstrate an effort to understand
my research by reading at least one of my papers in detail. In this case,
I will make an effort to reply, otherwise I will not.
- Once admitted as a PhD student, if you accept our offer of admission,
you spend the first two semesters largely in course work, and select an
advisor in your first year, based on a match of mutual professor/student
interests.
