Adam Arnold, Notre Dame’s first African-American faculty member and the first to receive tenure, was honored with the William P. Sexton Award at the Notre Dame Black Alumni reunion dinner in June. Arnold joined the finance department in 1957. The Sexton Award is reserved for a person (not a Notre Dame graduate) with a record of outstanding service to the University whose life exemplifies the spirit of Notre Dame.
