Exams, Review Sessions, and Grading Information

Departmental Exams and Grading Information
Many large courses offer exams on Tuesday and Thursday mornings throughout the semester and are considered part of the official exam schedule. Official exams follow the guidelines of the Academic Code stating, “No student shall be required to take more than two final examinations in one day or more than three examinations in a 24-hour period. Any student with exam conflicts must contact his/her dean at least one week before the exam period to allow for sufficient time to resolve the conflict."

Faculty requests for changes to the official exam schedule must be vetted through the dean's office for consideration and approval. Exams outside of the official schedule are offered at the discretion of the department and/or faculty member. Requests for space in these situations are accepted online at http://scheduling.nd.edu.

Final Exams and Grading Information

Final Examinations can be administered to undergraduates only at the time and place stipulated in the official examination schedule. The Undergraduate Academic Code states, "No student shall be required to take more than two final examinations in one day or more than three examinations in a 24-hour period. Any student with exam conflicts must contact his/her dean at least one week before the start of the final exam period to allow for sufficient time to resolve the conflict." Students should be prepared to stay throughout final exam week as make-up exams may be scheduled as late as Friday afternoon.

Final Examinations can be administered to undergraduates only at the time and place stipulated in the official examination schedule. If final papers or projects are due during finals week, the due date must fall on the same day as the scheduled final examination for that class. Any exceptions to these policies must be approved by the chair of the department offering the course and reviewed by the dean (or the dean's designee) of the college in which the course is listed.

Final exams will be scheduled through the Office of the Registrar and room assignments will be communicated to the departments approximately 14 days prior to Final Exam week. If a larger venue is preferred for an exam, contact roomreq@nd.edu to make arrangements to move the final.
