Optical analysis includes prism coupling with waveguide loss analysis. Waveguide and optoelectronic device characterization testbeds includes tunable lasers, piezoelectric positioning actuators, spectral analysis systems, infrared cameras and detectors, and lock-in detection equipment. A 10-watt cw Spectra-Physics Argon-ion laser, cw Ti:Sapphire laser, 5 optical tables, HP Optical Spectrum Analyzer with erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) options, Acton SpectraPro-500 0.5 m spectrometer/spectrograph, Sumitomo Fiber Fusion Splicer, Tekronix TDS520 1 Gb/s digital storage oscilloscope; EG&G DSP dual phase lock-in amplifier, ILX Laser Diode current and temperature controllers, EG&G Reticon line-scan camera, Keithley Model 2520 pulsed laser diode characterization system, ILX OM-6820 Optical Multimeter with Si and InGaAs integrating sphere heads, several Newport power meters, detectors, and waveguide test positioning stages, Agilent 8163A lightwave multimeter with Ge optical head and 81689A compact tunable 1550 nm laser module, Sensors Unlimited SU320 InGaAs camera, and Optiwave Opti_BPM integrated optics modeling software.
III-V compound semiconductor wet-thermal oxidation system (with 3-zone furnace, temperature controlled water bubbler, 4 mass flow controllers, and residual gas analyzer), General Air high-vacuum quartz ampule sealing system for III-V annealing and diffusion processing, General Air graphite-strip heater atmospheric/low pressure CVD reactor for silicon nitride and silicon dioxide.
