05/22/2013 The Go Research Group and SST Lab welcomes undergraduate researchers Jordan Campbell, a MARC USTAR scholar from Morehouse College in Atlanta, and Maitiu O'Ciarain, an ND Nano NURF fellow from University College Cork in Cork, Ireland!
05/22/2013 Congrats to undergradaute students Zack Woodruff and Matt Goedke who both gradauted with B.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering this past saturday!. Zack will be starting gradaute school at Northwestern in the fall and Matt will be joining industry after a quick detour to help lead Notre Dame at the Baja SAE competition.
05/01/2013 Congrats to Danny Taller, who is the lead author on a paper recently accepted to Physical Review E. In his paper titled "Modulated exponential films generated by surface acoustic waves and their role in liquid wicking and aerosolization at a pinned drop," Danny presents a theoretical study of the forces that are present in surface acousic wave pumping and aerosolization, and determines the cause for enhanced pumping speed through porous media.

03/25/2013 The Go Research Group welcomes graduate student John Haase, who will be conducting his research on thermionic energy conversion using microdischarges. John joins us from Kettering University in Flint, MI where he obtained his B.S. in Engineering Physics and Mechanical Engineering.

03/06/2013 Congratulations to high school student Nate Griggs who received a 2nd Place Award at the Northen Indiana Regional Science and Engineering Fair for his work on plasma/liquid interactions with gradaute student Paul Rumbach. See a picture of Nate's display here.
02/25/2013 Congratulations to Dr. Rakshit Tirumala, who successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis on February 22, 2013. Dr. Tirumala was the first, and therefore founding, student in the Small Scale Transport Research Lab and is Prof. Go's first full Ph.D. student (start to finish).
02/12/2013 Prof. Go has won the NSF CAREER award to study microplasma-enhanced thermal energy conversion. Check out the press release.

11/21/2012 The SST Lab continues to be very active
- Congrats to undergradaute Matt Goedke who presented his research on modeling data center nodes for Environmental Opportunistic Computing at IMECE in Houston, TX this November. Matt is the first SST Lab undergradaute to give an oral presentation at a national conference!
- Congrats to Danny Taller who followed up his talk at AIChE Annual Meeting on the formation of surface droplets by surface acoustic waves with a talk at IMECE as well.

- Congrats to Paul Rumbach who presented his work on the interaction between microplasma jet and liquids at the American Vacuum Society Symposium in October.
- Congrats to Danny Taller who gave his first conference presentation in October when he presented his work on the formation of surface droplets by surface acoustic waves at the AIChE Annual Meeting.

- Congrats to Paul Rumbach, who is the lead author on a paper recently accepted to the Journal of Applied Physics. In the paper, Paul uses a theoretical model to show the significant ion and electron current possible when microdischarges are enhanced by field emission.
- Congrats to Danny Taller, who is the lead author on a paper recently accepted to Physical Review Letters. In the paper, Danny reveals a new phenomenon when surface acoustic waves interact with liquids, where they break up the liquid film to form self-similar surface droplets.
10/04/2012 Many congratulations to go around!
- Congrats to Jay Li, Rakshit Tirumala, and Paul Rumbach who are lead author and co-authors on a paper recently accepted to IEEE Transactions on Plasma Science. Jay led an effort using particle modeling to understand the interaction between space charge and field emission in microdischarges, showing for the first time the feedback that forms between the cathode and gas processes.
- Congrats to Paul Rumbach (again!) who is a co-author on a Fast Track Communication recently accepted to Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics. Paul worked with collaborators from Case Western Reserve University to show that when a plasma interacts with a liquid, the electrons can cause electrolysis and generate hydrogen. This opens up a variety of opportunities in the new field of plasma electrochemistry.
- Congrats to Yunshan Wang, who works with Prof. Chia Chang and collaborates with Prof. Go and who is the lead author on a paper recently accepted to Europhysics Letters. Yunshan was able to show that the jets that eminate from electrospray cones break up due to the build up of space charge and that this space charge governs the shape of the drop plume in the spray.
- Congrants to Paul Rumbach (again, again!) who presented his work as well as that of Jay Li and Rakshit Tirumala at the International Workshop on Mechanisms of Vacuum Arcs this month.
- Finally, congrats to Prof. Go who recently had a patent issued on electrohydrodynamic flow tubes.

07/20/2012 Congratulations to former undergraduate researcher Michael Croteau, who recently graduated from the Alliance for Catholic Education (ACE) program with a master's degree in education and will be beginning a Ph.D. program in aerospace engineering at the University of Colorado, Boulder in the Fall!
