Non-Notre Dame/Visiting Students
Registration begins on March 20, 2013.Thank you for considering an application to take one or more courses in the 2013 Summer Session. Follow the steps below to apply/register for classes as well as ensure an easy transition into the Summer Session.
Apply/Register for Classes
Step 1: Apply/Register for classes . Summer 2013 registration opens at 7:00 a.m. (South Bend time) on Wednesday, March 20, 2013. Click here for the online application.
- Search for classes offered this summer at: Class Search (available November 20).
- A non-degree student who wishes to take a science class or an engineering class in the summer is required to submit a copy of their academic transcript from their home institution before we can complete the processing of their application. At Notre Dame, “science classes” are taught by the College of Science which includes all of the courses with a subject code of BIOS, CHEM, MATH, PHYS, SC, and/or SCPP. “Engineering classes” are taught by the College of Engineering which includes all of the courses with a subject code of AME, CBE, CE, CSE, EE, EG, and/or ENVG.

- Transcripts can be sent before or after an online application is submitted; however, a decision email will not be sent until the transcript has been received and reviewed by the appropriate department.
Step 2: Look for email from Summer Session Office. You can expect to receive an email within 5 business days of submitting your application. At this time, you will receive their Notre Dame ID and student schedule or notification of further action required.
- If you haven't received an email from the Summer Session Office, please contact sumsess.1@nd.edu.
Steps below this point cannot be done until your receive your acceptance email and Notre Dame ID.
Step 3: Obtain NetID/Password
- New Students Obtain NetID and create password at the following website: https://accounts.nd.edu/activation. If you receive an error message, please contact the Summer Session Office at sumsess.1@nd.edu or by phone at 574-631-7282.
- Returning Students Reset password. Your NetID will be the same as when you were previously on campus; however, your password might have expired. If your password has expired and you are in the Michiana area or on-campus, you can go to OIT and reset your password. You must show a picture ID. If you are outside of the Michiana area or off-campus, please contact the OIT Help Desk by telephone (574-631-8111) to discuss alternatives to a personal visit to have your password reset.
If you do not remember your NetID, go to http://eds.nd.edu/search/, enter your first and last name, and click search. Your contact information, including your NetID, will be displayed.
Step 4: Once you obtain your NetID/set your password and before classes begin, complete the ND Roll Call process through insideND (http://inside.nd.edu). The ND Roll Call is a required process to let the University know that a student is attending a particular term. This is different from registration. Registration is adding courses to a student’s schedule. Students are responsible for tuition fees once registered and is not contingent on the ND Roll Call process. - Once logged into insideND, click on the “Student Academic” tab. Then, within the “Student Academic Services” channel, click on “ND Roll Call”. ND Roll Call is available beginning on May 20, 2013.
Step 5: Pay tuition bill. Tuition statements are available through IRISHPAY. Electronic statements are generated from the Office of Student Accounts at the end of June, July, and August. The University requires financial accounts to be settled before your first day of class. If you have not received a statement before your first day of class and/or have not paid in advance, you must do so at the Office of Students Accounts, 100 Main Building, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. A student account representative can be reached via email at stdacct@nd.edu or by phone at 574-631-7113.
Step 6: Complete Medical History & Physical Report. For first-time students, a Medical History & Physical Report is due to University Health Services prior to the start of classes. The form can be found at http://uhs.nd.edu/forms/. During the summer, students are only required to complete pages 1 and 4. Once completed, return to University Health Services, 100 Saint Liam Hall, Notre Dame, IN, 46556. All students are encouraged to have health insurance; however, it is only mandatory for graduate and international students. Students will receive information regarding health insurance via email (to Notre Dame email address only). Failing to follow the proper steps to opt out of the University insurance plan will result in charges to your student account. A health services representative can be reached at 574-631-7497. Step 7: Set Up Notre Dame email account. Most professors communicate with students outside of class via their Notre Dame email addresses. To set up your account go to the following web site: https://www.google.com/a/nd.edu/. Returning students can log into Gmail using your new password and NetID.
Step 8: Obtain Student ID Card. When you arrive on campus, obtain your student ID card from the Card Services Office in the lower level of the South Dining Hall. Presentation of a Notre Dame identification card is required for admission to special events and for use of the Hesburgh Library, departmental and college libraries, computer clusters, athletic facilities, dining halls (for meal plans), and University Health Services.
Step 9: Notify Summer Session Office of change in plans. If you wish to switch your summer course(s), you can do so at insideND or by notifying the Summer Session Office. However, changes after published registration dates must be made on the standard Academic Course Change form, which is available in the department offering the course. If you wish to drop the last course from your schedule, you must complete the Discontinuance of Summer Session Form.
Step 10 (If Applicable): Apply for on-campus housing via Housing Application at https://homeunderthedome.nd.edu/ The housing application is available starting mid-April 2012. For more information visit http://summersession.nd.edu/housing.html.
Step 11 (If Applicable): Apply for Meal Plans via Card Services Application at http://summersession.nd.edu/mealplan.html.
Step 12 (If Applicable): Apply for Parking Pass via insideND. The motor vehicle registration is $42.
