If you are feeling blue or depressed, or if you have suicidal thoughts or feelings, get help at the University Counseling Center. You may feel tired, alone, depressed, scared, angry, hopeless, or unloved, and it may seem that things will never get better. However, no matter how overwhelming your problems seem, confidential help is available. Licensed therapists at the Counseling Center can help you find alternatives you may not have considered and assist you in working through problems or situations that may seem hopeless. If you are depressed, effective treatments are available that will help to relieve your sadness, anger, and pain. Notre Dame students can seek counseling at the University Counseling Center, located on the third floor of Saint Liam Hall. Non-students (family, friends, faculty, staff) and students who are concerned about the welfare of a Notre Dame student are also welcome to consult with our counseling staff about how to refer a student to our services.
You can reach the University Counseling Center by calling 574-631-7336 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. After hours, that same number---574-631-7336---serves as the Counseling Center’s 24-hour emergency services line. If you call the emergency services line, you will reach a voice mailbox. Please leave a message with your full name and telephone number. The on-call therapist will call you back within 30 minutes.
If you have attempted suicide and need immediate medical attention, please call 911.
