Great Lakes Division Second Place
Ohio St hosted the 2018 Great Lakes Division Championship, seeded 2nd in a tight race between Ohio St (1st) and Grand Valley St (3rd). The Irish came off hot, pummeling the University of Dayton in their first game on Saturday. The Irish unexpectedly met Miami (OH) in the semifinal, as the Redhawks had upset Grand Valley. Once again, the Irish handled Miami (OH) with ease, able to play the entire team to finish out the games on Saturday. After a big dinner and football watch, the team settled down at the hotel, excited for the championship on Sunday.
Unfortunately Sunday did not go as well as Saturday. The Irish fell short 9-4 to a hungry Ohio St team to place second in the Great Lakes Division. After one, the Irish were down 3-1, but had pulled within one by halftime, down 5-4. Unfortunately the team could not produce more offense in the second half as Ohio St took the championship for the second consecutive year. The Irish earned second place honors, the best finish for the team since 2013. With the end of the regular season, the Irish wish the best to all conference champions participating in the National Championship at the University of Arizona during the weekend of November 9-11.
Though the season is officially over, the Irish look forward to more practices and comraderie for the semester. It should offer beneficial experience for the brave freshmen who have never played before this season, and the Irish are excited to plan out the spring tournaments.
