Started by male students in the late 1970s, the team first began to practice in St. Mary's Lake because they were not allowed to practice in the Rockne Memorial Pool. After a few weeks of doing so, however, the administration allowed them to play in the Rock, and the ND Water Polo team was officially created.
Beginning as a co-ed team, it remained that way until 1995 when the women on the team started their own club.
The club is a member of the CWPA's Great Lakes Conference, an entity created from the Northern Division of the now-extinct Midwest Conference. Since its creation, the club has competed competitively in conference and national play.
While we train and compete at a high level, we welcome students of all experience levels to join. If you are a high school student considering attending Notre Dame and interested in joining the team, fill out this recruiting questionnaire and return it to us. Also, feel free to contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
