Carla Chin returns for her third season with the Fighting Irish. She helped guide the team to the program's best finish in 1994. Her responsibilities include coaching the goalkeepers and recruiting. Last
season, the Irish goalkeepers allowed a school record low .623 goals per game while registering 15 shutouts. Along the way, Carla Chin's sophomore goalkeeper Jen Renola earned All-American Honors.
A native of Aurora, Ontario her playing experience is plentiful including most recently starting as Goalkeeper for the Canadian National Team in the 1995 Women's World Cup.
She was also the starting goalie on the 1991 CONCACAF squad that palyed the United States in Haiti for the championship and was a member of the 1990 Oakville Soccer Club that won the Ontario Cup and a national bronze medal. Chin earned All-Canadian Honors at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, where she earned her Bachelors of Arts degree in religious studies in 1990. Chin's college career also saw her play two years at York University in North York, Ontario. She was the starting goalkeeper for the Championship Ontario Provincial team from 1986-1987.
Prior to coming to Notre Dame she spent the 1991 and 1992 seasons as an assistant coach at Cornell. Chin was also an assistant coach at Florida International University. In addition to being an assistant coach at Notre Dame Carla Chin also serves as ab assistant for the U.S. Region II girls under-17 team.
