This course is intended for students who will
not be majoring in science or in engineering. A study of some
of the major concepts and laws of classical and modern physics,
in some historical context, provides the student with a foundation
for understanding, at a conceptual level, the natural phenomena
and technological devices encountered in everyday experience.
PHYS 101 will include a study of motion and Newton's laws,
momentum and energy, the structure of matter, thermodynamics
and relativity. PHYS 102 will cover wave motion, electromagnetism,
light, and the quantum nature of the atomic and subatomic
world.
