Conditor alme syderum,
Eterna lux credentium,
Christe Redemptor omnium,
Exaudi preces supplicum.

Qui condolens interitu
Mortis perire seculum,
Salvasti mundum languidum,
Donans reis remedium.

Vergente mundi vespere
Uti sponsus de thalamo
Egressus honestissima
Virginis matris clausula.

Cuius forti potentie,
Genu curvantur omnia
Celestia terrestria,
Nutu fatentur subdita.

Te deprecamur agie
Venture iudex seculi,
Conserva nos in tempore
Hostis a telo perfidit.

Laus, honor, virtus, gloria,
Deo Patri et Filio,
Sancto simul Paraclyto,
In seculorum secula. [Amen.]
  —Anon., 7th century
O bountiful Creator of the stars,
the eternal light of believers,
Christ, the redeemer of all:
Hear the prayers of [your] supplicants.

You, sorrowing that the ages
might perish by the destruction of death,
did save a languishing world
and provided a cure for sinners.

In the declining evening of the world,
like groom from the bridal chamber,
You emerged from the undefiled
womb of the virgin mother.

At whose great power
every celestial and
terrestrial knee is bent,
all confessing with a bowed head.

We pray you, O holy judge
of the world to come,
to save us now from the
sword of our treacherous enemy.

Praise, honor, power, glory
be to God the Father and the Son
and the Holy Spirit,
forever. [Amen.]
