UT Phebi radiis soror
obvia sidera luna,
UT REges Salomon
sapientis nomine cunctos,
UT REMI ponthum
querentum velleris aurum,
UT REMI Faber instar habens
super aera pennas,
UT REMI FAS SOLvaces
traducere merces,
UT REMI FAS SOLA
Petri currere prora,
Sic super omne quod est
Regnas, o virgo Maria.
LAtius in numerum canit id
quoque celica turba,
LASSO lege ferens
eterna munera mundo:
“LA SOL FAta minans
clara prelustris in umbra,
LA SOL! — FAMIlia
de matre recentius orte,
LA, SOL, FA! — MIRE
tanta quia non violata,
LA, SOL, FA! MIRE UT
rore lana Gedeon quo.”
Rex, o Christe Jesu,
nostri deus alte memento.

As the moon, Phoebus’s sister, surpasses
the stars in her path with her rays,
As Solomon, all other kings
in renown for wisdom,
As the oars of those who sought the
golden fleece mastered the sea,
As the artificer, with oar-like wings,
the air above,
As the law of man requires of the oar
that it transport perishable goods,
And, of God, that Peter’s oar, at the prow,
speed one special Ship,
So over all that is,
thou reignest, O Mary, Virgin.
So, too, sing the heavenly host in musical
measure, and magnify the theme,
for the weary world, doing their office
under law everlasting:
“LA, O sun, overcoming fate,
already bright in the darkness;
LA SOL! Son, sprung even now from a mother
come of a glorious line,
LA, SOL, FA! Miraculous the event,
for she remained inviolate,
LA, SOL, FA! — as miraculous as the dew
on Gideon’s fleece.”
King, Christ Jesus, O God most high,
be mindful of us.
