Math 40760: Differential Geometry, Fall 2017

Lecture Diary

08/23: Covered Chapter 1.1
08/25: Covered Chapter 1.2
08/28: Covered Chapter 1.3. Note that I am using $\sigma$ for what the book calles $s'$, namely the speed of the curve. They use $s(t)$ to denote the arclength function, so $s'$ is the speed. I find this confusing since $s$ sure sounds like speed to me.
08/30: Covered Chapter 1.4. Note that I used a slightly different definition of the order of contact of two curves which resulted in an easier derivation of the radius of the osculating circle. 09/01: Covered Chapter 1.5.
