For reaction between a strong acid and strong base:
HCl(aq) + NaOH(aq) NaCl(aq) + H2O(l)
H+(aq) + OH-(aq) H2O(l)
For acid dissociation:
HA(g or l) + H2O(l) A-(aq) + H3O+(aq)
In aqueous solution, the H+ ions bind covalently to
water to form solvated hydronium ions.
