Equations for Aqueous Ionic Reactions
Molecular equation: shows all reactants and products as if they
they were intact, undissociated compounds.
Total ionic equation: shows all the soluble ionic substances
dissociated into ions.
Net ionic equation: eliminates the spectator ions* and shows
the actual chemical change that occurs.
(*spectator ions: ions in the total ionic equation that are not
involved in the actual chemical change)
