Types of Acids and Bases: Strong and Weak
Strong acids and strong bases dissociate completely into ions
when dissolved in water. The ionization reaction is represented
with a single one-way arrow in the forward direction.
Weak acids and weak bases dissociate partly into ions when
dissolved in water, leaving a large fraction of the acid or base
intact. The ionization reaction is represented with a two-way arrow
indicating an equilibrium between associated and dissociated
(ionized) forms of the acid or base.
Examples: HCl and NaOH
Examples: CH3COOH and NH3
