Drainage
Patterns
Drainage Patterns reflect the characteristics of the underlying
rocks:
Dendritic
(branching
like a tree): developed on flat-lying, homogeneous rock or
unconsolidated
sediments.
Radial: water
running
off a volcano or dome, flowing from a central point.
Rectangular:
underlying
rock is cut by joints or fractures that get easily eroded by streams.
Trellis: occurs
in
mountainous areas, where rock layers have been folded and eroded to
expose
long resistant ridges, with valleys flowing in the valleys, but
occasionally
cutting a ridge.
