Notre Dame Australia's Campus in Broome is a Campus of
Reconciliation and is of special significance to the Aboriginal people
of that region. It devotes special attention to the study of Aboriginal
and cross-cultural issues, and it provides an environment for the promotion
of policies and values which enhance social justice, racial harmony, and
participation in the region's social institutions and economic life.
It gives special opportunities for non-Aboriginal people to be directly
united with Aboriginal people and to learn about their law and culture.
Notre Dame US students visit the campus in Broome and
then have the opportunity to travel to several Aboriginal communities in
which they come as friends and not as tourists. One possibility is
to visit the Bardi community on the Dampier Peninsula and to gain some
sense of their spirituality and lifestyle. What takes place
is a true sharing of cultures and experiences.
