DSG Brown Bag

Special Guest: DSG Brown Bag Friday Feb. 29
I’m delighted to announce that our Brown Bag presentation this week will be led by Dr. Dennis Molfese.

Dr. Molfese is a Distinguished University Scholar and Professor at the University of Louisville, where he is also Chair of the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences .  Dr. Molfese is also Editor-in-Chief of the periodical Developmental Neuropsychology.

His remarks are titled:

“Dynamic Links Between Emerging Cognitive Skills and Brain Processes".

Abstract:

Preschool children with more advanced pre-reading skills exhibit
faster processing and engage different brain structures during other cognitive tasks than children with poorer skills. These relationships are noted in a study that utilized event-related brain responses to study the relationship between pre-reading kills and shape discrimination.  In addition,  processing in a poorer performing group appears to engage more distributed brain regions. A brain model describing changes occurring during development and during the acquisition of skills will be presented.

Here is a revised schedule of speakers-and-topics for the Spring term.  There are still open slots.

Invite Undergraduate Research Assistants

Also, the DSG is also for undergraduate research assistants.  Please invite yours to the Friday colloquia.  Alternatively, please send along their email addresses and I will include them in our communications.
