The University of Notre Dame

The University of Notre Dame is located north of South Bend, Indiana, about 150 km east of Chicago.  Notre Dame was founded by Father Sorin, a Holy Cross priest from France, in the mid 19th century.  Today, Notre Dame is among the top Catholic universities of the world.  Besides its academics, the university prides itself on the tradition of sports like college football fostered by Knute Rockne who coached the Four Horsemen.  Notre Dame is even more noted for its strong undergraduate programs and the loyalty of its alumni.  Project GRAND is an extensive air shower array located just north of campus.  It is composed of proportional wire chambers which are position sensitive detectors.
