Given a point and six lines in general position in space, there are 18 conics which pass through
the point and meet the lines. The remainder of this page documents counting the number
of real conics through the two sets of a point and lines provided in the paper.
Directions
Before you begin, you will need to have a working binary of
alphaCertified on your machine.
We present the computation for one of the two sets of a point and lines and provide the files for the other below.
- Save the files polySys_2real and points_2real in the same directory.
- Execute the command
      >   alphaCertified polySys_2real points_2real
from the directory.
- Here is the output displayed to the screen. Perusing it, we see that alphaCertified does certify that there are 2 real and 16 nonreal solutions.
