Communicate 5 words through the movement of a curve

Craft of using the pen tool

assignment

Draw 5 curves that communicate :

1   lethargic, lackadaisical, blah,
        or slow
2   flowing, smooth, fluid, or
        graceful
3   nimble, agile, quick, zippy,
        lithe, or fast
4   wild, haphazard, erratic,
        unstable, or aberrant
5   rhythmic, cadenced, or metrical

procedure

Use your pencil then fine line marker to work out different ideas. Draw approximately 30 sketches of each line. Explore as many possibilities as time will allow and then choose your best to develop further. These should be done in an orderly, systematically fashion.

You may wish to develop ideas with tracing paper.

There cannot be any straight lines

More than one line can be used, but this may not work for all.

Your drawing should approved before scanning.

Your handmade lines will be scanned and used as templates to produce digital versions

Frame the black & white compositions with a 1 point 9x9 inch box. The curve is in a 1 point line as well.

Have no frame outline on the color compositions. The curve line may however, be a weighted colored line in these compositions.

1   documentation of development in your sketchbook, etc

2   one version of the 5 categories of curves crafted by hand - these must be approved before beginning the digital version

3   based on #2 above, draw the handmade curves using Adobe Illustrator
