SOC 63691: Research and Analysis in the Sociology of Religion

(aka RASR)

Spring 2012

Description & Format

This seminar is designed to expose people to debates, issues, and topics in the sociology of religion and to provide feedback on research projects and papers. Presenters should send their papers to Kraig Beyerlein [the seminar organizer] who will distribute them to other seminar participants via Basecamp. So people have sufficient time to read the paper and prepare comments, presenters are asked to send their papers to Kraig no later than a week before they present. Though it is not required, presenters may choose to introduce their papers. Please keep any introductory remarks to 5 minutes or less. Each presenter will receive feedback from two discussants (a graduate student and a faculty member). Discussants are asked to limit their remarks to about 10 minutes and should focus on the broader issues of the paper. After the discussants are finished, the floor is open and everyone is encouraged to give the presenter additional feedback. Food and drinks will be provided for each 1.5 hour each session.
