Between 10,000 and 20,000 years ago a star twenty times as massive as the sun, and 2400 light years from earth, ended its life explosively. The resulting supernova would have been visible in our daytime sky. The explosion created a shock wave which has been traveling outward since at 900,000 mi/hr. The hydrogen and oxygen in the interstellar gas is energized and glows red and blue respectively. The nebula is 140 light-years long. Its apparent size in the sky is about 6 times the width of the full moon.
