93. Logical Foundation of Induction. -- The problem is usually stated as follows: Induction passes from the fact to the law, from some observed cases to all observable cases. Why is this process legitimate? Because the concurrence of a large number of variable elements and forces in one harmonious and persistent combination (the fact established by observation and experiment) demands its sufficient reason. Now this sufficient reason can only be a natural inclination of the bodies in which the harmonious and stable combinations take place. This thesis has been demonstrated in Criteriotogy, no. 63.
