12/7/98: I'll keep regular office hours through the end of this
week. Next week, my office hours will be as follows:
- Tuesday, 12/15/98: 4-6 PM
- Wedensday, 12/16/98: 10-12 AM
- Thursday, 12/17/98: 10-12 AM
- Friday, 12/18/98: 3-5 PM
I can, of course, make appointments to accomodate people who
can't make it to any of these office hours.
The final exam will take place in DBRT 136--our usual classroom.
By the time I hold office hours next Friday, I hope to have your
final exams graded and your final grades computed. I encourage you
to come by then and look over the grading on your final.
- 11/11/98: The results on the 2nd exam were good by and large.
We set the curve as follows: A > 86, B > 73, C > 59, D > 49.
You might want to take stock of your performance in the course
at this point. If you think you could be doing better, now
would be good time to come by my office and talk with me. A
good performance on the final exam will do a lot to help your
final grade.
- 11/4/98: Don't forget about the exam on Monday! Problems will
cover sections 3.3 to 5.5 of the differential equations textbook.
There will be a review session (i.e. a question/answer session)
on Sunday November 8 from 6-7:30 PM in DBRT 136 (i.e. our usual
classroom). There will be no quiz next week on November 12.
- 10/26/98: By next week Wedensday, I hope to be finished with
the differential equations portion of the course and on to
linear algebra. Don't forget to get copies of the linear
algebra lecture notes that I will follow. They're available
at the copy shop in Lafortune.
- 10/12/98: There is a typo in the homework from section 3.8. In
problem 21, T_d is equal to 2*Pi/"mu" rather than 2*Pi/u. Also,
beware in problems that use English units (e.g. #7 and #10).
Pounds is the English unit for force rather than mass. So an
object that weighs 16 lbs at the earth's surface will have a
mass of 16/32 "slugs", where we are using the formula F = ma
and the fact that acceleration due to gravity is 32 ft/sec^2.
- 9/29/98: The curve for the first exam is A > 85, B > 72, C > 60,
and D > 49. For purposes of figuring up final grades at the
end of the term, scores at the extreme ends of the letter ranges
might be qualified with a + or -.
- 9/18/98: My office hour on Wedensday 9/23 will be held one hour
later than usual---i.e. from 2-3 PM instead of 1-2 PM.
- 9/18/98: We have a test coming up a week from Monday (i.e. on
9/28). There will be no in class review beforehand, but
there will be a review session on Sunday 9/27 in DBRT 136 (yes,
our normal classroom) from 6-7:30 PM. Also, because of the
exam, there will be no quiz in tutorial on 10/1. Homework will
be collected as usual on the following day.
- 9/18/98: Some folks have yet to turn their quiz #1's back in. We
won't have your score until you do that.
- 9/8/98: My office hour tomorrow (Wedensday) will be an hour later
than usual--i.e. 2-3 PM rather than 1-2 PM.
- 9/7/98: Due to a miscommunication between me and the TA, the
scores for the first quiz were not recorded. Please bring
your first quiz to class with you in the next few days, and
turn it in to me so we can record your score.
- 8/25/98 IMPORTANT : there's been a mistake
in registration for math 226, and the results are that lecture
section 01 is much larger than lecture section 02, and that
students from a given lecture section can be enrolled in
either recitation section. To fix this, my lecture
section (01) has been changed to lecture section 02--though
I will still be teaching in DBRT 136. If your lecture section
and recitation section do not agree then you should
change your lecture section. This needs to be done by Friday,
as it involves "adding" a lecture section, which is not
allowed after Friday.
- 8/25/98: Recitations will be held this Thursday (8/27) though
there will be no quiz. Wedensday's homework will be due on
Friday (8/28).
