Math 230, Spring `99
Past Announcements
- 5/5/99: A little
advice
concerning the final exam.
- 4/27/99: I'll hold review sessions in 120 DeBartolo on Friday,
April 30 from 3-5 PM and Wednesday, May 5 from 5-7 PM.
Please try to show up in the first hour of these review
sessions if possible--more people present at the same time
makes for a better session I think. Also, keep in mind that ' you will be driving these sessions with your questions. I
don't plan to prepare examples or anything like that in
advance. In addition to the review sessions, I'll be in my
office on Thursday May 6 from 3-5 PM, and I'm willing to make
appointments to meet with you at other times if the need
arises.
- 4/22/99: The time and location for the final exam are
as follows: 8-10 AM on Friday May 7 in DeBartolo 120 (our
usual room). I plan to hold some extra office hours during
finals week and maybe even reserve a class room for a review
session. The times (and places) for these will be posted
here as soon as I set them in stone.
- 4/22/99: The Mathematica assignment and all other uncollected
homework will be due the last day of class (Wednesday,
April 28).
- 4/7/99: We have our second exam during class next Thursday,
April 15. It will cover chapters 3, 4, 5, and whatever part
of 7 we finish by Monday (probably including 7.6 or 7.7). I
won't be there during the exam (someone will proctor for me),
but I'll use next Wednesday's class for review (i.e. I'll
answer any questions you might have at that time). In the
meantime, check out these comments
about preparing for the exam.
- 4/7/99: There will be no class next Friday, April 16.
- 3/30/99: The last Mathematica assignment is now posted.
Start as soon as you can!
- 3/25/99: I'm back.
- 2/28/99: Beginning next Saturday (3/6) I'll be going to Pisa for
three weeks for research purposes. When you get back from
spring break, class will go on as usual, except that
Professor Stanton (stanton.1@nd.edu) will be giving
lectures for two weeks, and Roxana Smarandache will be
fielding questions and giving quizzes during Thursday
tutorials. Please give them your full attention and respect,
and as always, don't hesitate to ask them questions about
the material they're covering. It can be a bit tricky
to take over a class mid-semester, so your questions will
be important cues for them. Jetlagged or not, I'll be back
in the classroom on Monday March 29.
- 2/24/99: Note the change in due dates for the latest
Mathematica assignment.
- 2/8/99: I've posted a Mathematica assignment on numerical
solutions of first order ODE's. The deadline for turning
this one in is Wednesday, March 3.
- 2/10/99: Note that we have an exam next Thursday (i.e. 2/18).
It will include questions dealing with all the material
covered through Monday--by which time I plan to be done
discussing Section 3.3. (Postscrpt: I didn't finish 3.3,
so the exam will only deal with material through 3.2 and the
corresponding parts of 4.1).
- 1/22/99: I've posted the first (mandatory) Mathematica
assignment on the Mathematica page and in the course
AFS space (assign2.nb). It's on first order ODE's, of
course. Download it, do it, turn it in two weeks...
- 2/1/99: I will hold office hours from 5:30-6:30 PM today
(rather than from 3-4 PM).
- 1/25/99: I just realized that I've got an important colloquium to
attend today at 4:30 PM. I'll have to move my office
hours up by half an hour (to 3:30-4:30) in order to make
it. If this causes you any inconvenience please let me
know, and I'll schedule an appointment to meet with you at
a different time. Sorry about the short notice!
- 1/18/99: My office hour today will be from 3-4 PM rather
than 4-5 PM.
- 1/13/99: There will be no class Friday, January 15
