TEXT: Linear Algebra by K. Hoffman and R. Kunze, second edition.

EXAMINATIONS AND GRADING: There will be two one-hour exams and a final; there will also be weekly homework assignments. Each one-hour exam is worth 100 points, the final is worth 150 points, and the homework will count for 100 points, for a total of 450 points.

HOUR EXAM DATES:

   Exam 1: Wednesday, February 11.
   Exam 2: Wednesday, March 25.
FINAL EXAM: 8:00-10:00 am, Wednesday, May 6.

HOMEWORK: Homework will be assigned weekly, more or less. Feel free to work with other people on your homework, but you must write your solutions yourself. There may be several other assignments during the course of the semester.

HONOR CODE: Exams and homework are conducted under the honor code. As mentioned above, cooperation on homework is permitted (encouraged, in fact), but copying is not.

PLAN FOR THE COURSE: We will continue in the light-hearted manner of Math 261. I hope to cover most, if not all, of the following material this semester:

   Chapter 5: Determinants
Chapter 6: Elementary canonical forms, eigenvalues
Chapter 7: Rational and Jordan forms
   Chapter 8: Inner product spaces
Chapters 9, 10 (as time permits)
There may be additions to or subtractions from this list as the semester goes on.
